Join us on September 22 at 7:00 p.m. as we discuss the enthralling courtroom thriller, The Holdout by Graham Moore. It’s the most sensational case of the decade. Fifteen-year-old Jessica Silver, heiress to a billion-dollar real estate fortune, vanishes on her way home from school, and her teacher, Bobby Nock, a twenty-five-year-old African American man, is the prime suspect. It’s an open-and-shut case for the prosecution, and a quick conviction seems all but guaranteed; until Maya Seale, a young woman on the jury, convinced of Nock’s innocence, persuades the rest of the jurors to return the verdict of not guilty, a controversial decision that will change all their lives forever. Join us on October 24 at 1:00 p.m. as we discuss Killers of the Flower Moon by David Grann. In the 1920s, after oil was discovered beneath their land, the richest people per capita in the world were members of the Osage Indian nation in Oklahoma. Then, one by one, the Osage began to be killed off. Many of those investigating the murders were assassinated. The FBI took up the investigation, and badly bungled the case. In desperation, the young J. Edgar Hoover, turned to a former Texas Ranger named Tom White. White put together an undercover team, including one of the only American Indian agents in the bureau.
