March 23 @ 7 PM - Mystery Book Club - Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz

Join us on March 23 at 7:00 p.m. as we discuss Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz. After working with bestselling crime writer Alan Conway for years, editor Susan Ryeland is intimately familiar with his detective, Atticus Pünd, who solves mysteries in sleepy English villages. His traditional formula has proved hugely successful, so successful that Susan must continue to put up with his troubling behavior if she wants to keep her job. Conway’s latest tale involves a murder at Pye Hall, with dead bodies and a host of intriguing suspects. But the more Susan reads, the more she’s convinced that there is another story hidden in the pages of the manuscript: one of real-life jealousy, greed, ruthless ambition, and murder.

Feb 23 @ 7 PM - Evening Book Discussion: American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins

Join us on February 23 at 7:00 p.m. as we discuss American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins. Lydia Quixano Perez lives in the Mexican city of Acapulco where she runs a bookstore. She has a son, Luca, the love of her life, and a wonderful husband who is a journalist. And while there are cracks beginning to show in Acapulco because of the drug cartels, her life is fairly comfortable. And then one day a man enters the shop and comes up to the register with four books he would like to buy-two of them her favorites. Javier is erudite, charming, and unbeknownst to Lydia, he is the leader of the newest drug cartel that has taken over the city. When Lydia’s husband’s tell-all profile of Javier is published, none of their lives will ever be the same. Forced to flee, Lydia and eight-year-old Luca soon find themselves miles and worlds away from their comfortable middle-class existence. Instantly transformed into migrants, Lydia and Luca make their way north toward the United States and discover that everyone is running from something.
