They assembled at the Notting Hill house of Georgina and Theo to remember Professor Sebastian Marlowe, the man who introduced them about twenty years ago. The dinner party attendees were the original five who interviewed with the professor, Theo, the project manager, and Finn who helped Marlowe towards the end of his life. The six were called "the revolutionaries" as they were going to change the world with a revolutionary new dating site, one that was based on questionnaires but also psychometric data. As their launchtime loomed, the site creator decided to take on another challenge-the Wasp Trap. Based on a swarm that almost stung Georgina to death, she mentioned that "wasps are nature's psychopaths." Marlowe was obsessed with psychopaths-it might be a good thing to develop this test for him. Unfortunately, the whole website project was abandoned on the professor's orders and the six went their separate ways.
Before they sat down to dinner, Georgina and Theo told the gathering that there was one more piece of news that had to be shared. They had two daughters, Mia, sixteen and Olivia, nineteen, and the eldest had left home and had been missing for almost a year. After the guests expressed their sympathy and Georgina emphasized that Olivia would return when she was ready, they sat down for dinner. Their meal was catered by a chef and his assistant, and the appetizers were delicious. As the entree was served, Finn excused himself to find the loo...AND THE GAME BEGAN.
I can't tell you more than this but trust me-it becomes a locked room mystery on steroids. Old secrets, murder and mayhem are just the beginning, and it quickly goes downhill from there. Edwards, a British writer known for "writing books where scary things happen to normal people," really hit it out of the park with this one. Dessert anyone?
