Three patients occupy the "cottages" at Rush's Recovery, an extremely high end treatment and recovery center on Shelter Island in New York. In these glass walled mini-mansions facing the sea, celebrities and rich clients check themselves in to heal from drug use, self abuse or the myriad problems of having too much too soon. Each has their own doctor living in the floor below theirs at their beck and call, along with a personal chef and a nurse who doubles as a housecleaner. But these particular three are looking for more than a quick mental detox.
Amelia Blue chose Rush's Recovery because she heard it was the best and she'd tried all the others, at least that was the reason she gave to her grandmother. She came from rock royalty-her dad was the best known bass guitarist in the business, and her mother was a singer and lyricist who was known for her erratic ways. Both were dead. Amelia Blue had an eating disorder which she wasn't sure that she wanted to give up.
Lord Edward is the son of a British duke. His sister will be the Duchess and will inherit everything when their father dies, which is a good thing because Edward is a royal mess. He was a dreamy child who didn't fit his heritage, he was tossed out of Eton, and was finally banished to New York to keep him out of the headlines. He found love there, and while trying to get his act together, got into a horrible car accident. He was at Rush Recovery to heal both physically and mentally.
Florence Bloom was the third resident. After her husband died by suicide, she tried to continue her singing career but the songs and the gigs failed to materialize. The founding member of the group Shocking Pink, she had two golden records to her name but her lifestyle choices worked against her and she gave up trying to raise her daughter. Her agent made it clear that she had to change her ways in order to salvage her career, and maybe she was getting back her song-writing inspiration through her sexy chef.
Lord Edward and Amelia Blue become friends after both went out for some fresh air. He soon found out that she had an ulterior motive for choosing that particular treatment center-it was the last place that her mother was alive and Amelia Blue wanted to get the details of her stay...and she was willing to break the center's rules to get them-Lord Edward was all in.
This was a well-written novel and I enjoyed reading it, but. There was an extremely large twist that took some time to get over, and I still don't think that I've put all the pieces back in the right place. Suffice to say, you are guaranteed that everything you think you know is wrong and the rug will be pulled out from under you-enjoy!
