Capri Sanzio's San Francisco serial killer tour business has blossomed since her success in solving the mysteries of Overkill Bill and the copycat murder. It didn't hurt that the resulting murder mystery podcast went viral. But how is she going to keep that momentum going and what will her next podcast look like? And now she has a true crime book to write and no time to do it.
The different sections of San Francisco are crime magnets, but they were especially brutal in the Gold Rush days. As Capri leads a group through the Barbary Coast and tells them stories of its wild history, one of the tourists sees something disturbing in one of the windows-it looks like a woman is being strangled. When she tells Capri, she calls the police who find nothing wrong in that apartment. To verify this, she contacts that sexy detective who helped her solve the Overkill Bill case. While he handles it as a potential crime, she becomes the investigative journalist who sees things the police don't. The suspects are many and the clues are few, as Capri balances her investigation with her already busy schedule and her burgeoning relationship with Detective Petito. Can she crack the case before any more dead bodies, (maybe hers?) are added to the mix?
This is the second book in the Serial Killer Guide mystery series and it's as smart and manic as the first one. Not only has the reader a complicated mystery to solve, but also a great look at some of San Francisco's wildest areas and how they progressed through history. Lots of fun in the California sun.
