Welcome to the 2021 Adult Summer Reading Club, Tails and Tales. Our theme this year honors the wonderful comfort of animals, both wild and domesticated, that helped us get through the Covid pandemic. If you had a cat to cuddle, a dog to walk, or even a fish to feed, it brightened your day and gave purpose to your life. And, as you know, most animals have a tail and a tale. Do you have a pet pic you would like to share, especially if it also contains books? Does your fur baby have a tale? Please send your pictures and/or a story about your pet to us at readers@eastmeadow.info so we can celebrate them this summer.

We start our summer with a whale of a project, with the first part on Thursday, June 17th at 7:00 p.m., and finishing up on Thursday, June 24th (same time). Librarian Janine Walsh will lead us in a crocheting craft, “a whale of a coaster.” Kits will be made and available for pick-up, so that we can learn to crochet a whale coaster for that cool summer beverage of your choice.

Our June Mystery Club title is Dog On It by Spencer Quinn featuring the P.I. team of Chet and Bernie. Even if you are not one of our regular mystery readers, we urge you to join us Tuesday, June 22nd at 7:00 pm to get a taste of the Chet and Bernie mystery series. Spencer Quinn aka Peter Abrahams will be the featured author at our End of Summer Party in August, and has a new mystery in the series debuting in July.

Other summer programs include a visit with the plant man who will tell us what to plant to draw wildlife into our gardens, baking with a back story-learning to make desserts that come with a tale, an animal-centric trivia contest, and of course, book discussions.

Our programs once again, will be online and primarily zoomed. Sign-up and registration begin June 8th, and can be done at our summer reading club website. Our tentative calendar is located on that webpage as well. We will have little gift bags once a week, randomly drawn from the submitted reviews-each patron can win one during the summer. Our fantastic bibliography will also be on the webpage where you will find our recommended books-some available now, and some coming out during the course of the summer…both in e-book and print book.

We hope that you will enjoy our summer tale!
