Plays Well With Others by Sophie Brickman

Annie used to write for the NYT Arts section before she wrote a viral essay on not-so-perfect mothering. A start-up journal nabbed her to write a weekly column as "Mother Inferior," and with her third child six months old, she jumped at the chance. Her ditzy young "editress" challenged her to write more honest and raw, and as her life spiraled into chaos, she pulled no punches. But the most important thing in her life was the kindergarten game-she had to score her wonderful son Sam an appropriate placement in the best private school in the city and the competition is more than fierce.

Her arch rival, Belinda, a prominent divorce lawyer, also has a son, who she has trained from diapers to be the best. Rambo and Sam are running neck and neck in the various placement exams and interviews, and seem to be heading towards the same schools-one will win and the other go down in flames. But Belinda has always used Game Theory to guide her when she goes for the jugular to win a case. Annie usually plays fair but she's not averse to changing tactics to benefit her son-and it looks like it's time to up her game.

Plays Well With Others is a frightening cautionary tale of the lengths NYC moms will go to navigate the private school labyrinth-oh, the problems of the rich!
