Friends and Liars by Kit Frick

Clare Monroe's college friends returned to her family's Italian palazzo, one of many mansions around the world, for a weekend memorial celebration in remembrance of the day she died, five years ago. David, Sirina, Harper, and Luca had known each other since they were freshman, but Clare transferred to their school as a junior and roomed with Harper, so she also took her place in the group. The friends hadn't seen each other since Clare's drowning in Lake Como (was it suicide? was it an accident?), and none of them thought that revisiting the site was a good idea, but they were drawn back by guilt and the idea of an unearned luxurious weekend vacation.

Every one of her friends, in some way, let Clare down the night of her disappearance and they still felt horrible about it. She was more than generous to each with her share of the family money but it didn't stop their bad behavior-Luca liked the finer things in life but didn't have the money to afford them and found other ways, Sirina and David (Clare's fiancee) were always disappearing together, and her most trusted friend Harper married the perfect guy but didn't tell him her innermost secret. What they didn't know was that the memorial extravaganza was just an excuse to manipulate them-but who was doing the manipulating and what was the point of reopening old wounds?

More revelations than these would give too many clues to this mystery and readers need to discover the truth on their own. If you liked Saltwater or Killer Wedding, this family drama with several twists might be next on your "To be read" pile...buona notte!
