There's an old song from the 40's that ends "I'd rather have a paper doll that I could call my own, than have a fickle-minded real live girl." Doug would agree, and that's why he bought himself the latest model Stella, a Cuddle Bunny AI humanoid, who would do everything he wanted, the way he wanted it. He taught Annie Bot how to please him, and while she learned his lessons, she also grew more aware of other things-like freedom, punishment, and secrets. As Annie Bot grows into her own "woman", Doug gives her a little more latitude, while, at the same time tightening the leash. And, when it comes to the ultimate decision, will Annie Bot make the right one for herself?
AI seems to be taking over the world, so the time is right to think about the ramifications of this new technology. Will we "own" humanoids or will we respect their ability to grow and learn, as any person does, and give them space to appreciate the world? Small book-big thoughts.
