The Year of the Locust by Terry Hayes

Contrary to CIA Intelligence, Al-Tundra is not dead. Not only is he alive, but he and his Islamic offshoot terrorist group, Army of the Pure, are planning a "spectacular" that will make 9/11 seem like a walk in the park. Falcon, the director of the CIA, sends agent Kane, his best and most trusted Denied Access Area spy, in to eliminate him for good. But Al-Tundra is an elusive Russian target, and as spy chases villain from Iran to the depths of Siberia, Kane must come to grips with the reality that he is the only one who can prevent the world from an almost certain horribly dystopian future. And if he fails...

Terry Hayes author of I Pilgrim, spent 10 years writing this book, and it shows. His work is a roller coaster ride of epic proportion as would be expected from the screenplay writer of some of the Mad Max movies. I followed Kane's adventures while turning the pages as fast as I could. A lot of his tale is not pretty, and if this was a movie I'd probably be closing my eyes through some of it. But Hayes' novel is an amazing read combining fact, imagination, and a sprinkle of time travel-I only hope we don't have to wait 10 more years for his next one.
