Assassins Anonymous by Rob Hart

Mark is the kind of guy who would not be noticed in a crowd-certainly someone you would not fear as an apex killer. But you would be dead wrong (and possibly dead) if you underestimated the assassin known as the Pale Horse. Bad guys across the world feared this man who could enter a room without a weapon and pick off 12 trained thugs in two minutes. Adrenaline, the god-like feeling of invincibility, and the knowledge that he was in the right helped Mark justify his addiction to assassination, and he was the best hitman ever employed by the Agency. That is, until he made a tragic mistake that ruined his only shot at a happy life. That was when he found the group Assassins Anonymous, a 12 step program for killers who wanted to stop. After almost one year of joining them and dealing with his issues, he has succeeded in killing no one else, but now people are trying to take him out...can he make it through alive without spoiling his record?

Hart, author of The Warehouse, tells his story with humor and pathos and makes Mark a very complicated human who you root for despite his propensity for murder. This book often gets graphic so if you have delicate sensibilities it might not be the book for you. But if you want to understand the power of addiction and the battle to master it, I highly recommend this book.
